Pals and its surroundings
The coast
The part of the coast of Pals is one of the most beautiful stretches of coast of the Costa Brava and is a part that has not suffered from mass tourism yet.
Platja de Pals offers one of the longest beaches of the Costa Brava, 3.5km long strip of fine golden sand, and blue, clear water. It is a lovely quiet beach that is part of a natural park, with protected dunes. You will have a great view over the Medes Islands, islands to which excursions are also organized. The vegetation consists mainly of umbrella pines. Platja de Pals is also perfect for a fantastic beach walk. You can walk over the rocks to Sa Riera, the nearest nearby beach.
Platja de Pals consists mainly of low-rise buildings with residences of 2 or 3 floors, (no high-rise buildings) situated around the golf courses that the resort has designed with respect for nature.
Moreover, Platja de Pals has sufficient facilities such as shops, restaurants and supermarkets. In short Platja de Pals is ideal for families with children, away from the mass tourism of the Costa Brava.
The old historic village
The old Pals, situated on a hill, with its medieval centre is one of the famous historical places on the Costa Brava. A visit to the old Pals is certainly not to be missed when you are on holiday in the region. Together with Peratallada (only 10 km from Pals) it is famous for its impressive historical heritage.
The historic heart offers visitors a mix of Gothic, Romanesque and Baroque styles, magnificent architectural details and a surprise around every corner. The little shops, art galleries and cosy terraces are also very nice to enjoy with the whole family.
Neighbouring Begur and Palafrugell are attractive villages surrounded by beaches and coves known for their exceptional beauty. You may already be familiar with a few names: Sa Tuna, Tamariu, Calella de Palafrugell,…
Rice fields
Did you know that Pals grows her own rice? This has been happening for five centuries, and you can walk or cycle on the paths between the rice fields!
You can see how people grow rice in this area of dunes and wetlands, and all kinds of birds fly there, which you can observe from a special observation post. There, by the way, a fine walking and cycling route leads to it.
The view over the rice fields is breathtaking, with the Montgrí mountain in the background.
Unique rice demonstrations (sowing and harvesting) take place in April and October.
Sports
The area offers plenty of opportunities from golf to water sports, from hiking and biking to water parks for children.
In early, high and late season Platja de Pals is excellent for golfers: Golf de Pals (1 carmin.), Golf Empordá (10 carmin.) and 5 other golf courses (less than 45 carmin.).
Pals is part of the Natural Park of Montgrí, les Illes Medes i el Baix Ter, so you can enjoy walking, cycling and even horseback riding.
The Parc Aventura Costa Brava, located in the middle of a pine forest, offers more than 80 adventurous activities in the trees: zip wires, safety nets, ropes, tunnels, Tarzan jumps,…
